The IDC and Appcelerator have published their quarterly survey of mobile developers , this time collecting data from 5,778 mobile developers in December 2015.

Unsurprisingly the data indicates waning interest in Windows Phone from developers, with Windows Phone down from 28% last year to 23% this year.In turn iPhone and iPad was up, while Android was down from 75% to 70%.

Surprisingly however interest in Windows tablets (including the Microsoft Surface) followed the same trajectory, despite this being a rapidly growing segment of the market, and the universal Windows App store bringing those same apps to more than 100 million users.

Developers are instead focusing on the Apple Watch and other Internet of Things platforms as their latest platform.

emergent markets

If Microsoft statements regarding increased engagement and penetration of the Windows Store is true developers may be taking their eye off the ball by ignoring a massive platform hungry for their apps.
