Microsoft has appointed a new Chief Executive Officer for its UK arm, Microsoft UK. Cindy Rose has joined the company already, but won’t become the CEO until November 1st, 2016. Until that date, the current CEO, Michel Van Der Bel, will continue to maintain full responsibility.
Cindy Rose joins Microsoft from Vodafone UK. Cindy was the Managing Director of Vodafone’s Consumer Division. Other notable roles include Executive Director for Digital Entertainment at Virgin Media, along with being Vice-President & Managing Director, EMEA at Disney Interactive Media Group. With her appointment, she will be bringing years of experience to the table, and will take the lead in managing Microsoft’s operations in the United Kingdom. Her role will include driving Microsoft’s vision for a “mobile-first, cloud-first era”, a motion backed heavily by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
Michel Van Der Bel will be moving into a new role within the company, but the exact role is to be announced at a later date.
In a statement, the company’s President of Microsoft International, Jean-Philippe Courtois, said:
I am truly delighted to announce that Cindy is joining Microsoft UK. She brings a real strength in driving complex, customer-focused businesses and a deep understanding of the digital space. As we continue to transform as an organization and support our customers’ digital transformation, Cindy’s experience will be invaluable.
Jean-Philippe also commented on Michel’s current role and his future:
I would also like to pay tribute to Michel Van der Bel, who has been an inspiring leader of Microsoft UK over the past four years. I’ve worked closely with Michel over this period and know just how he embodies our company’s values. He can be justifiably proud of the organization he has led and I look forward to announcing his next role in the near future. Over the next few months Michel will work alongside Cindy, to ensure we have a smooth transition of leadership and continue to drive our business forwards.
Cindy Rose will take charge of Microsoft UK on November 1st, 2016.
